The National Dance Institute, a nonprofit arts education organization in Harlem that brings children together through inclusive dance and music programs is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

In the heart of Harlem, the National Dance Institute (NDI) is continuing its mission of inclusion and creativity with the return of its acclaimed DREAM Project.

National Dance Institute’s (NDI’s) 2025 Event of the Year, “Music In The Air: A Celebration of Rock,” brings together almost 200 talented children from New York City schools to perform original choreography accompanied by live music, from June 14th through June 16th.

In this segment, host Gary Axelbank sits down with Jermaine Jones and Shawn Jones to discuss upcoming events from the National Dance Institute, and Shawn’s inspiring journey as a dancer.

Kathleen Rivera (she/her) joins NDI as its new CAO. Kathleen is a visionary nonprofit leader and accomplished philanthropy strategist with over two decades of experience driving impact and innovation across the social sector. With a deep expertise in strategic planning, fundraising, communications, and organizational growth, Kathleen has consistently delivered transformative results for mission-driven institutions at the local, national, and global levels.

2025 marks the 50th Anniversary of the National Dance Institute. Founded in NYC by the late, renowned dancer and teacher Jacques d'Amboise on the belief that every child should have access to learning in and through the arts, NDI impacts the lives of thousands of children in New York City and worldwide.
